Kabir | Right to Information

In the last five years Kabir has played a major role and has been dedicated to spreading awareness about RTI Act. Kabir has conducted more than thousand workshops and training programs on RTI across the country. It is estimated that approximately 15,000 people participated directly in these workshops and many have learned about it indirectly. It has also produced around 13 films and three of its films have also been awarded top prizes in various film festivals. Kabir has produced the much demanded print and training manuals on RTI. Moreover, during the General Election '09 Kabir was a key player in the Campaign to demand Swaraj. Some of the major past activities of Kabir have been mentioned below:

A film festival on RTI was organized during 7 th to 11 th October, 2009 with the motive to bring all such films (dealing with work done in the direction of achieving a transparent system) in front of public and to make citizens realize that the crying need of the hour is not to complain but to act. During the five day festival, films were screened at several spots in Delhi and saw overwhelming response from the audience. The concluding day of the festival was attended by well known faces like Mr. Wajahat Habibullah, Central Chief Information Commissioner, Mr. Jagadanand, Information Commissioner, Orissa and Medha Patkar, a well known social activist.

During the general election '09 campaign of Swaraj started with a bang as 1000 hoardings and posters were displayed in national capital to question political parties to bring Swaraj. This campaign was the first significant effort to educate media and masses about the concept of Swaraj and passed message to political leadership that citizens are now aware.

On October 11, 2009 a national convention on RTI was organized wherein uneducated people from backward areas were provided a platform for the first time to highlight ways in which they had used RTI for the common benefit and share experiences of how RTI had helped them access government services better.

Kabir was a partner in an RTI convention held in Jammu & Kashmir in September, 2009.

Kabir started a weekly radio show in September, 2009 on Right to Information with support from UNDP. The show focused in villages is to make more and more villagers aware about this Act and to fight for their right. Along with this Kabir is also running a dedicated helpline wherein experts advice people on problems related to governance in their area.
