Ongoing Key Activities undertaken by Kabir

RTI:

• A radio show is aired twice in a week on AIR FM Rainbow to make people aware about Right to Information Act taking up examples where people have used it in their day to day life and have found considerable change in their living style.

• Kabir is running a dedicated RTI helpline wherein around 2000 people call every month from villages and towns to know about the RTI Act and also put forward their problems related to schemes and day to day dealings with governance. A group of experts provide guidance and help them in using RTI to their advantage.

• Workshops are being conducted at colleges, government offices to create more and more awareness related to the Act.

• Kabir is providing support for the ongoing weekly program “Jaanne Ka Haque” on Doordarshan in an effort to increase public awareness of RTI. It has generally been providing RTI related footage and stories to the media .  

Swaraj :  

The dream of Swaraj as envisioned by Gandhi is being realized by several mohallas in Delhi . It has been started in two Municipal Wards in Delhi named Trilokpuri and Sundernagri. The wards have been divided into several mohallas and mohalla Sabha is being conducted in every two months where people from the locality sit and take decisions regarding development in their area. The councilor of the area presides over the meeting along with several other MCD officers. He discloses funds available with him and let the people decide the work which is to be undertaken urgently. This gives a sense of participation to people. It is being observed that the promises made by officers in mohalla Sabha transforms into work done. One of the main reasons why these promises don't turn into false ones is that the officers have to be present in the next mohalla Sabha to answer people why the work was not done.

Similarly, this movement has gained momentum in some of the villages in Western UP as well. People associated with the campaign visit villages and are making people especially youths in the area aware about the necessity of their participation in Governance. If work undertaken will be under the direct control of people in the area there will be minimum scope of corruption.  

Kabir has been playing an active role along with Lok Raj Aandolan in disseminating this concept of Swaraj i.e., local self governance by promoting Gram Sabha in villages and also organizing mohalla Sabha in several blocks in Delhi.
