Campaign to preserve RTI Act from dubious amendments

Only a few months after the passage of the law, some evil and misguided elements in the Legislature realized that by approving the law, they had essentially ended their reign as corrupt autocratic warlords of the country, and effectively handed over the reigns of governance completely to the people. Therefore it came as no surprise when a series of amendments were put forth that if passed, would have made RTI Act totally ineffective. Above all, “file notings” were proposed to be kept outside the purview of the RTI Act. Kabir, along with several leading voices of activists and social personalities nationwide, worked to motivate the people to protest against these amendments. Kabir actively participated in protest demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in Delhi . The relentless efforts finally succeeded when the proposed amendments to the Right to Information Act were withdrawn.
